President’s Page Fall 2017

Hello, my name is Fred Knotek. As of January 1st, I will be your new Sonora Chapter  BMW CCA President. I want to use this opportunity for you to get to know something about me.

My wife Debbi and I moved to Tucson in July of 2014. Prior to relocating to Arizona, I spent most of my life living and working in the Twin Cities area.  I was born in the Czech Republic and lived in Germany, Italy and Australia before my parents settled in Minneapolis. I’m a graduate of the University of Minnesota. My entire career has been in the Information Technology field. Starting as programmer, I worked in various positions and attained the role as Director for a large food wholesaler and retailer before my retirement.

My involvement with BMW’s began in the early 90’s when we bought a 318is.  Living in Minnesota, we stored the car over the winter months to stave off any rust that might accumulate.  We love the car so much, we still have it after 25 years. We also currently have two other BMW’s; a 2000 528i and a 2014 M235i.

I joined the BMW CCA in 2002 and just received my 15 year member pin. I was a member of the North Star Chapter before transferring my membership to the Sonora Chapter when we relocated here. Debbi and I have attended two BMW CCA Oktoberfest’s (2010 at Road America and 2016 in Monterey). I’ve also had the privilege of participating in the BMW Performance Driving School at Thermal, CA in May of 2017.

My goals as your President is to carry on the traditions of the Chapter, look for new opportunities, be a responsible caretaker of the Chapter and be responsive to your needs as members. Please don’t hesitate to let me know what you feel the Board of Directors and I can do to give you a great membership experience
