Description
Guided tours are led by trained docents who know the history of each telescope and many interesting facts about them. Normally, the schedule is as follows:
10am: The McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope, which is the world’s largest solar telescope (tour lasts about 1 hour)
11:30am: Kitt Peak’s first large night-optical telescope, the 2.1 meter telescope (tour lasts about 1 hour)
1:30pm: Kitt Peak’s largest telescope, the 4-meter Mayall (tour lasts about 1.5 hours).
Tour destinations are subject to change necessitated by staffing, maintenance, and safety issues. Only the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope is accessible by wheelchair.
