One of our members, Ross Lampert, planned the event and with Jill Becker organized a Mexican Dinner at El Minuto Cafe before the game in Downtown Tucson. Our small group was seated in the backroom when John Sewell, owner of Formula 1 Paint & Auto Body https://www.formula1collision.com came in with his sons, Tyler and Johnny (manager of Hi*Speed Customs) http://hispeedcustoms.com as well as their wives and kids.
The main event was a rousing game of arena football at the TCC. The crowd was really into the game! The arena noise from cheers, boos, air-horns and cow bells was somewhere between 90 and 100 decibels most of the time. A few of us had the foresight to bring ear-plugs. There’s a first time for everything and this was my first arena football game. I was skeptical at first, but it turned out to be a really fun event! At the half, the Phoenix Rattlers led: the score was 14-10. In the second half the Tucson Sugar Skulls, with a key interception, scored one touchdown & the extra point, and then capitalized on a fumble by the Rattlers in their own territory to score again & get the extra point. The kick-off then went between the goalposts (arena football is 50 yards) for another two points! The Tucson Sugar Skulls and the Phoenix Rattlers then traded touchdowns, but Tucson ran out the clock and made their fourth consecutive win this season. The Sugar Skulls mascot did an impressive job of keeping the crowd engaged and entertained.
Our Chapter turnout was low, unfortunately, but this member had a great time.
